About Us

Started by a kid who noticed

Volunteers collecting bags during a shallow-water cleanup

Our story

The flats we grew up fishing kept getting thinner. The grass thinned out, the bait disappeared, and the water that used to run clear turned the color of tea. Nobody was measuring it and nobody was talking about it.

So we started measuring. What began as a notebook and a handful of sample jars became Ground Fish Foundation — a registered nonprofit run almost entirely by volunteers, built on the belief that protecting the bottom of the food chain protects everything above it.

We're small, we're local, and we're not going anywhere.

What we stand for

Science first

We lead with data, not slogans.

Local and loud

We show up at the meetings nobody else attends.

Youth-led

The people who inherit the water make the decisions.
